ZZULI-OU Intelligent Engineering Joint Institute (hereinafter referred to as “the Joint Institute”) was approved by the Ministry of Education in April 2023. It is a Chinese-foreign joint institution without independent legal status and is co-organized by Zhengzhou University of Light Industry (ZZULI) and Oakland University (OU). The Joint Institute implements 4+0 undergraduate double-degree education under the supervision and leadership of Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the Education Department Henan Province.

The Joint Institute offers majors in Artificial Intelligence, Vehicle Engineering and Automation and implements Chinese general undergraduate and American bachelor's degree education. Students who successfully complete their studies and meet the requirements of both China and the United States, will be granted undergraduate diplomas and bachelor degree certificates by ZZULI and bachelor degree certificates by OU. It is not necessary for students to study in the USA to obtain the bachelor's degree of OU. The degree certificates conferred by OU are identical to the certificates conferred to its native students in the USA and are recognized in the USA.

Integrating excellent education resources of both parties (including teaching faculties, curricula, textbooks, teaching methods and techniques, quality assurance as well as administrative experiences, etc.), the Joint Institute aims to establish a high-level international educational institution in the field of engineering and technology by introducing ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited courses focused on intelligent engineering and, to cultivate outstanding new engineering and international talents equipped with an international outlook, global awareness, and basic professional engineering knowledge and skills. This will result in advantages for international competition and cooperation, Sino-American people-to-people communication as well as enhance the international influence of both parties.
